The New Jerusalem

Revelation 21:12-22:5

John’s visions in Revelation, though maybe unsettling at times, are designed to strengthen believers in perseverance, despite suffering and persecution, we are invited to lift our eyes out of this world as we know it and gaze upon the beauty of the fulfillment of God’s plan in His perfected kingdom. It might be a surprise to some to discover that heaven is described as a city—the new Jerusalem. God’s great desire for us is that we shall no longer be isolated from one another, but shall rather be a perfect community of worshippers, united in Christ. John tells us that they are representatives from every nation, tribe, people and language, living in the city of God, which is the fulfillment of all His promises to us.
